The Joy of Surrender
By Lisabet Sarai
I’m not afraid to admit it (at least not while I’m sheltered behind the mask of my pseudonym). I love BDSM stories. Give me a well-written, convincing tale that incorporates bondage, spanking, whips and clamps, blindfolds and tests of a sub’s devotion, and I’m in a state of bliss.
Much of my own writing incorporates BDSM elements. Even when I’m not writing an explicit BDSM story, I find that elements of power exchange tend to sneak into my characters’ relationships.
Why do I find BDSM exciting, to read and to write? It is not, primarily, the taboo nature of the topic. It’s not because I think that restraint or pain is pleasurable or sexy per se. And unlike some romance authors, I don’t add bondage or discipline to my work just to “spice it up” with something naughty. Rather, I’m drawn to relationships involving dominance and submission because of the fundamental eroticism of surrender.
The essence of submission, for me, is offering one’s whole self to the dominant. The sub relinquishes control to her master. She holds nothing back. She bares not only her body but her doubts, her fears, her secret fantasies. She lets down all her barriers, trusting her Dom to takes responsibility for her pleasure and safety.
Surrender is arousing because it creates a deep psychic and emotional connection between the Dom and the sub. The intimacy of a successful D/s encounter is almost overwhelming. I know this from personal experience. The sub cannot hide behind a mask of propriety. The Dom knows what she wants, however extreme or forbidden. He may understand her better than she understands herself. The sub no longer needs to struggle with her conflicts or confusion. She does not need to make any decisions, once she has made the essential choice: to place herself in the dominant’s hands and under his control.
Surrender can be intoxicating for the Dom as well. It is thrilling to realize you have earned such profound trust from another human being. The Dom can exercise his will over his sub, do anything that pleases him, knowing that his actions also excite and satisfy her–because his pleasure makes her surrender more complete.
I’ve recently begun publishing a series with Excessica called D&S Duos. Book 1 was released at the beginning of January. Book 2 comes out on February 6th, with more scheduled for March and April. Each volume offers a pair of BDSM short stories that explore the joy of surrender.
The first book offers two of my most intense tales. In “Body Electric”, a professor of engineering charms his female colleague into experiments on the erotic effects of electricity. In “Limits: A Love Story”, an established Master/slave couple push their relationship to next level of trust – blood sports.
Here’s an exclusive excerpt from “Limits”:
He strokes my hair, working out the tangles. His gentle touch floods me with a sense of well-being. “I love your kinky mind, Becca, as much as your lush body. I love pushing you – seeing how far you’ll go, for me. Discovering the depths to which you’ll sink if I ask.”
He seizes a handful of hair and drags my mouth to his. His tug on my scalp turns me molten. New flows of searing liquid leak from between my legs. I relax into his brutal embrace, letting the heat rise.
His kiss sucks the breath from my lungs and the last shreds of doubt from my mind. I open, deliciously helpless to resist or even reciprocate. While he devours me, his fingers roam and hover, tracing phantom paths down my throat, circling my navel, brushing across my damp pussy fur to send reverberations through my cunt. I imagine my aching nipples, flashing bright red like landing beacons to beckon him closer. He ignores my breasts, though, as well as my desperate clit, teasing me with barely-there caresses while his fierce kiss continues.
Finally he releases me, leaving my lips bruised and my cheeks smeared with saliva. He stands back, surveying my bound and naked form with obvious satisfaction. My skin radiates energy; I feel as though I’m glowing. His face is flushed, too, and his eyes glitter like diamonds, brilliant and unrelenting. He crosses his arms over his massive chest and favors me with a mocking grin.
“Speak up, Becca. Tell me. What do you want?”
I must be brave. He expects that of me, and I can’t bear to disappoint him. Still, it’s difficult to actually say the words.
“I want – I want you to cut me, sir. To leave your mark on me. Please, sir.”
“Good girl.” His palm cradles my cheek for an instant. Then he’s gone, over at the sink, washing his hands with anti-bacterial soap. As he worms his hands into the gloves, he murmurs, almost too soft for me to hear. “That’s what I want, too.”
You can buy D&S Duos Book 1 from all your favorite online book vendors.
I watch, fascinated, as he removes his shirt and trousers. He’s no younger than I am, certainly. He too has his flaws. They mean nothing. When he kneels on the bed, straddling me, I’m only a breath or two from my climax. He gives me a feral grin, obviously reading the reckless desire in my face.
“Look up, over your head.” Leather cuffs, fastened to the headboard by clever straps. I swallow hard. My clit throbs, aching for stimulation.
“Do you always bring sex toys when you attend a conference?” I try for lightness, humor, anything to defuse the intensity. Does he really intend to tie me up?
“Not always. I had a feeling about this one, though…” He runs his thumb along the line of my jaw then slips it between my lips. I suck on it with the same enthusiasm I lavished on his cock. “I’ve been waiting for you a long time.”
I’ve been waiting for him, too. I never knew, never realized. The comfortable, happy years with my husband and kids – the birthdays, the graduations, the snug, familiar, ordinary times – are suddenly as insubstantial as the fog gathering over the harbor. His hands on my body and his iron will are my only realities.
“Do you want me to bind you, Elizabeth?” He knows the answer but he’s going to force me to say it out loud.
I can’t bring myself to admit it. Heat crawls into my cheeks. I want to look away, to escape from those eyes tunneling into my soul, but he won’t allow me to do so. “Well? If you don’t want the cuffs, we can forget about them…”
“No!” I sputter, afraid that he means it. “I want them. Please.” Now there’s a huge sense of relief, magnified by his satisfied smile.
“Of course,” he says, raising my arm above my head and snapping the snug bracelet around my wrist. “Whatever you want.” In an instant, the other wrist is secure. The sensation of helplessness is overwhelming.
I want to thank Sam for the chance to hang out here at her blog, and you, her readers, for sampling my post. To show my gratitude, I’m giving away a copy of D&S Duos Book 1 to one reader who leaves a comment with his or her email.
And if you love stories of surrender too, I hope you’ll take a couple of minutes to take a look at my BDSM backlist, which you can find at http://www.lisabetsarai.com/books_index.html.
I became addicted to words at an early age. I began reading when I was four. I wrote my first story at five years old and my first poem at seven. Since then, I have written plays, tutorials, scholarly articles, marketing brochures, software specifications, self-help books, press releases, a five-hundred page dissertation, and lots of erotica and erotic romance – more than fifty single author titles including eight full length novels, plus dozens of short stories in various collections. My credits include contributions to the Lambda winner Where the Girls Are and the IPPIE Best Erotic Book of 2011, Carnal Machines. My gay scifi erotic romance Quarantine won a Rainbow Awards 2012 Honorable Mention. I have also edited a number of acclaimed erotica anthologies. Currently I am responsible for the charity erotica imprint Coming Together Presents, which as of December 2014 has published six volumes by top erotic authors, supporting causes such as Amnesty International, Planned Parenthood, and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America.
I have more degrees than anyone would ever need, from prestigious educational institutions who would no doubt be deeply embarrassed by my chosen genre. Aside from writing, travel is one of my most fervent passions. I’ve visited every continent except Australia, though I still have a long bucket list of places I haven’t been. Currently I live in Southeast Asia with my indulgent husband and two exceptional felines, where I pursues an alternative career that is completely unrelated to my creative writing.
