1) When did you start writing, and was there a significant event that prompted you to do so?
I began creatively writing in college; however, I quickly discovered I could not pay the bills by my writing alone. I began work for the feds. However, maybe it was a mid-life crisis or my divorce that seriously spurned my writing again. It took me well over two years to write my first novel, simply because I really had no idea “how to” actually pen a book.
2) Where do you get your inspiration for writing?
Initially, my inspiration came from personal experiences. However, I also now use anecdotal family stories, current events, and sometimes even a simple sentence is the beginning of a new book.
3) What motivates you?
My desire to create a world I can control the outcome. Also, writing is a stress relief activity for me.
4) Do you pre-plan your stories, or are you a by-the-seat-of-the-pants style writer?
I take notes constantly. I have a simple idea in my head and then I build on it. I have a long commute for my day job, and my mind churns constantly. As I think of something, I write it down and see how I can fit it into a WIP. However, sometimes when I’m writing, the flow just takes off and it feels great when that happens. I also have very vivid dreams and write them down as soon as I awaken to use them for a story.
5) Do you write only when inspired, or do you have a set schedule where you sit down to write?
Because I hold a FT job outside of writing, sometimes, I must keep a storyline until I get a break or go home for the day. It’s very difficult, but, I will jot my quick notes down so I keep that scene or idea fresh.
6) Do you have a favorite genre to write in?
I like to write in different genres, according to my mood. My first three published books are romance, I would like to finish my suspense/thriller and see how it is received.
7) To read?
I like to read adventure stories or biographies, such as Aron Ralston’s story (Between a Rock and a Hard Place). I also read many books in the inspirational/Christian genre, thriller/suspense genre, and some romance as well.
8) What do you enjoy the most about writing?
Creating a world and positive endings that maybe did not occur in reality, similar to re-writing an actual event.
9) Is there any part of writing that you don’t enjoy?
The arthritis in my hands acts up and I can’t always write for as long as I want.
10)Can you tell me something odd about yourself?
Engaging in repetitive motion makes me nauseous. Keystrokes are sometimes a killer. lol
11)Do you write one story at a time, or do you have several novels in the works at one time?
I have about seven in the works right now.
12) What are your current projects?
A few YA books- one with a bullying plotline, one with a paranormal theme and one with a fall romance. I have a serial killer/demon suspense in progress. I also have a few romance books in the works.
13) Do you have any advice for others about self-publishing?
Edit until you can’t stand it anymore.
14)Do you have any online sites where readers can find out more about you (and your books)?

Blurb for Eve’s First Noel:
Decked out in her sexiest holiday finest, Eve strolled into Noel’s life more unsure of herself than ever, yet determined to find joy for Christmas. Noel was having trouble learning to live ardently again, but one look at Eve roused his dormant masculine desires.
Blurb for Lovedust and Trailblazers:
Young Marine, Josiah Samuels, was sent home from the Korean Conflict and honored with a Purple Heart for the shrapnel wounds across his chest. Although he proudly served his country, he lived on a daily basis haunted by the sights and sounds of warfare.
As a cattle rancher, he raised stock for local rodeos and lived a simple life of solitude. But, the loneliness and the void the war created in his chest began to overwhelm him.
Then, because of a “cow emergency”, he met Minnie Mitchell, a spitfire neighboring rancher who finished veterinary school in a time when few women were even admitted to University veterinarian programs. She faced her own obstacles in running her family’s cattle operation and finding a job as a vet in stereotypical 1950’s Oklahoma.
Minnie passionately rattled Josiah’s world in ways he previously only dreamed. Now, together, these Trailblazers must find a way to keep Minnie close to the family ranch…and Josiah’s loving arms.
Explicit Excerpt from Lovedust and Trailblazers:
Minnie pulled only slightly away. “Josiah, I want you to make love to me. I am a woman with needs and it’s been so long since I’ve been touched by a man. Even when I did, it felt nothing like what you bring forth in me. Right now, you’ve created such a burn in my loins that I don’t even care if you lose respect for me for being so bold. I need you that much.”
With those words, Minnie began unbuttoning her shirt. Josiah sat transfixed watching her dainty hands manipulate the buttons back out the buttonholes. She worked slowly, almost teasingly, as he watched her creamy, freckled décolletage peek through the loosened neckline. She tugged her hemline out from her jeans and leaned in once more for another kiss, this time, sliding her tongue in between his slightly parted lips. His breath became ragged and course, mimicking the impulses shocking his system.
“I have nothing but respect for you Minnie, and even more so at this very moment.”
Pulling her lips away from his, she sucked his tongue into her mouth, leaned back, and with a soft smacking sound, released his tasty tongue. She kept her eyes on his as she slid the shirt down her arms and into a small bundle on the floor next to her thigh. Minnie reached back and swiftly unclasped her bra and in one motion freed her small pert breasts from the white underwire lace. Josiah’s mouth watered at the sight of her nipples immediately tightening into small hard nubs, ready for his tongue.
He leaned forward and grazed his tongue against her neck, moving his head down for her breasts. He took one nipple gently into his mouth and lightly sucked it, reaching his hand to caress the other one. Minnie brought one hand up and traced the outline of his lips as he licked and sucked her nipple. She ran her fingers in line with his tongue, wetting them with his saliva. She then used her wet fingers to caress the other nipple into the same hardened intensity.
Minnie reached for the snap buttons on Josiah’s shirt. She popped them open hungrily, reaching for his chest. She gasped taking in his manly torso, magnificent, muscular, and also riddled with scars. “You are a beautiful man, Josiah.”
“The afternoon provided us with the perfect background to make love. Are you okay here in the loft?” Josiah looked around eagerly for a more comfortable location.
“Yes, I actually have a couple of quilts up here for when I need to escape for a nap.” Minnie stood up and quickly retrieved two quilts from a corner trunk. “I think we will be fine right here by the open hayloft door. Only the lightning will see what we are doing.”
She spread the quilts one of top of each other as Josiah removed his own shirt and tossed it across the floor. Minnie began unbuttoning her jeans before he stopped her. “Please allow me, I want to fully experience you as I do this.”
Leaning over, he once again raked her nipples with his hungry tongue as he dropped to his knees. He unzipped her jeans and slid them halfway down her thighs. “Minnie, has a man ever kissed you intimately before, you know, below the waist?”
“Oh, cowboy, no, but how I’ve dreamed of it. Are you going to teach me about it?” Minnie held her breath in excited anticipation.
“I’m going to try it, Minnie, but, it’s a first for me too. I just can’t help myself, I want to devour you.” Josiah leaned in and kissed her against her panties. He felt the heat coming from her core. His panting made her panties moist on the outside. He reached around and cupped her ass with his large, strong hands, pressing her groin into his face.
Josiah began tentatively kissing her intimate region through the simple, cotton fabric. Minnie’s knees began to buckle and he stood quickly to right her balance. Josiah scooped her up into his arms and lifted her close to him. “This is more intense than I ever imagined, Minnie, you must know this.”
Speechless, Minnie only nodded in agreement. Josiah gingerly dropped to his knees on the makeshift bed, still cradling her in his arms, relishing the feel of her naked torso against his chest. He laid her down and moved to slide her jeans from her legs. He then slid her panties down her thighs, marveling at her intimate beauty. The gentle “V” of hair curling gracefully around the core of her femininity captured his attention and filled in the blanks of his imagination.
Davee Jones began a career in the counseling field with her M.Ed. She then diversified and began work for the federal government. The dryness of the day to day assignments fostered the desire for her to do something more creative. Because writing was always a passion, she used every opportunity to journal and create fictional worlds with her words. She began writing short fiction and books, inspired by the events around her.
Now avidly writing, in the little spare time she has, she has several other books in progress, ranging from romance to suspense to young adult to comedy. She currently has books published from the genre of erotic romance. A few of her books garner only one flame, but, others will secure all five flames in the heat index.
