Guest: Adonis Devereux

Hello, and welcome, Adonis Devereux, to my site. They have so graciously agreed to be interviewed.

So, let’s begin…

1) First, tell us a little about yourself so the readers know who you are.

First of all, we are actually two people, a husband-and-wife writing team. We were college sweethearts who married the week of graduation. We have been married for 15 years, live in Japan, and have half a dozen children!

2) What made you decide to write? Was it something you accidentally began? Or what you wanted to do? Or an annoying character who refused to leave until her story was told?

We have both been writing for years. He wrote his first story in high school, and she started her first, a sprawling, 100,000 word monstrosity, when she was 12. Though he switched primarily to poetry in university, then back to prose later on, neither of us have ever really stopped writing. But we only got serious about getting published about a year ago.

3) I loved hearing about first acceptances as an aspiring writer, and now that I am e-published, I still love hearing about them. So tell us about that first acceptance.

It was a definite thrill! We had finally decided to get serious about writing, and we knew we wanted to write about Gilalion, the fantasy world we have been building since we started dating back in university. We were nervous when we submitted, and the waiting seemed to take forever. And then came two acceptances within three hours of each other! We terribly excited, and we celebrated with cassis liqueur and cider. And sent in to Evernight Publishing our acceptance of their contract. We haven’t looked back!

4) Tell us about your current release. Where can readers buy it from?

Our current release is The Twelve Naughty Princesses, a departure for us. We usually write stories set in Gilalion, but this was a submission to Evernight’s Naughty Fairy Tale line. The idea just grabbed us one evening, and we wrote like mad. The Twelve Naughty Princesses is an erotic take on The Twelve Dancing Princesses, by the Brothers Grimm. But though our princesses dance, they do … a lot more than that. It is available from 10 May at Evernight Publishing, as well as Amazon, All Romance, etc.

5) What are you currently writing?

Currently we are working on a Gilalion story again. We have another one due to be published on 5 June (Love Comes Twice), and our goal is to have completed this manuscript before then. We are on schedule to do it! This story involves interracial love and a vengeance plotted for years. We add in a deposed king, a usurper, and an unexpected rival to keep things moving along.

6) What inspires you most when you write?

She: He does.

He: She does.

Seriously, we are each other’s inspiration, the only “muse” we have.

7) What experiences have you had working with your publisher?

Only good ones! Evernight Publishing has been working with us for several months, and they have been unfailingly kind, courteous, and businesslike.

8) What are you reading now?

North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell. We have a tendency to like the classics, the ones assigned in uni literature classes.

9) What are your guilty pleasures?

He: Lady Gaga

She: Really cheesy vampire movies

10) What would be your advice, if any, for aspiring writers?

Write a million words of practice. Really. The first million words you write, you should consider your apprenticeship. Write, write, write. And only then, only after you have honed your skills, submit. Sometimes there are the lucky few who can write smooth, succulent prose without having practiced for years. And sometimes there is Mozart. But for most of us, practice is what makes perfection. So practice! Write, write, write, and then write some more.

This is for you to talk more about yourself, leave your blogging details, site details and generally promote yourself.
